19 Degree Testing

Products Built to Last

We know that truly sustainable products are the ones designed to go the distance. We prioritize excellent quality, so your TUMI piece not only safeguards your precious cargo but also becomes a trusted travel companion throughout your journeys.

There are about 70 test methods that TUMI utilizes to ensure our products stand the test of time. With quality craftsmanship, we help protect what matters most: treasured belongings and the planet.

A Selection of Our Product Tests
  • Fly Rod Test

We suddenly drop luggage while gripping the handle to test the durability of the telescoping system.

  • Handle Jerk Test

All straps are subjected to repeated lifting and jerking motions under weighed tension to evaluate durability.

  • Mileage Test

Wheels are rolled on a rough-surfaced treadmill, testing the integrity of all bag parts, including handles and wheels.

  • Drop Test

Bags and luggage are dropped from all angles to ensure ultimate durability.

  • Zipper Cycling Test

We push our zippers to the limit—opening and closing thousands of times to ensure longevity.

  • Tumble Test

Bags are placed in a large, enclosed spinning machine and tumbled over various metal baffles for 125 cycles.

  • Environmental Test

We test for variable weather by using extreme temperatures and humidity levels to assess material resilience.

More Sustainable Materials
We are committed to incorporating more sustainable materials without compromising on the durability of our products. In 2024, approximately 42% of our net sales came from products that incorporate some recycled materials.* Learn more about components in our products that may incorporate more sustainable materials.
  • Recycled Polyester

We are committed to incorporating more recycled polyester from items like PET water bottles into our products, giving waste a new life.

  • Recycled Polycarbonate

We are working to increase the use of recycled polycarbonate from post-industrial materials such as scraps and cut-offs from manufacturing.

  • Recycled Nylon

We are increasing the use of post-industrial recycled nylon in our products, sourced from materials like fabrics, to help reduce the impact of our products.

  • Recycled Aluminum

Beyond plastic, we are expanding our use of recycled aluminum sourced from airplanes, soda cans and other sources.

  • Leather

While only a small portion of our products are predominantly made with leather, we encourage our suppliers as well as our third-party vendors to focus their purchasing from tanneries that are Leather Working Group (LWG)-certified tanneries and have achieved a Gold rating with that organization.

*While many of our products include recycled materials in the lining, we are increasing the number of products that also incorporate recycled materials in other key components such as the outer shell and/or pull-handle tubes. In 2024, the weight of recycled materials incorporated in our products range from 1% to over 90%.

Together, we’re committed to protecting what matters most—our treasured belongings and the planet we love to explore.

TUMI Store

100% Renewable Electricity

To minimize greenhouse gas emissions from our own operations, we are committed to maintaining use of 100% renewable electricity across the retail stores, distribution facilities and offices that we operate. We achieve this through a combination of on-site solar generation, participation in green power programs and purchasing renewable energy certificates. Our distribution center in Vidalia, Georgia has on-site solar panels, which cover the majority of the facility’s electricity needs. We’ve also installed LED lighting, occupancy sensors and upgraded heating and cooling systems across our operations.

Renewable Energy

Value Chain Emissions

The majority of our greenhouse gas emissions stem from our global value chain, in particular from the materials we use in our products. We have set an ambitious target for ourselves to significantly reduce the emissions from our purchased goods and services category.

To formalize our commitment, we have set an ambitious target to reduce emissions from purchased goods and services by 52% per unit of gross profit by 2030, compared to our 2022 baseline. On Group-level, this goal has been validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative.

More Sustainable Packaging

In order to reduce waste, we have defined sustainable packaging principles across the organization: reduce material use, use reusable and recyclable packaging and prioritize more sustainable materials where possible. In 2025, we will begin rolling these out across our operations.

19 Degree PC

1% for the planet

1% for the planet

As a 1% for the Planet partner, TUMI donates 1% of sales from the 19 Degree Collection in Polycarbonate to verified environmental nonprofits within the organization’s global network—supporting non-profits that help protect and preserve the world we call home.

It is the dedication of our people that allows us to make a difference. We empower our employees and expect our suppliers to meet our high standards. To further our commitment, we’re helping to conserve precious places, near and far.

Employees

Investing in Employee Growth

We successfully achieved our goal of providing professional development opportunities to all employees by the end of 2024—a year ahead of schedule—and remain committed to sustaining this progress.

We make an effort to invest in employee initiatives like leadership training, skills development and performance management tools to support all employees throughout their careers.

Culture and Inclusion

Celebrating Culture and Inclusion

As a global brand, TUMI comprises many nationalities and backgrounds. We strive to create a welcoming atmosphere for all employees—the kind of environment that helps our teams grow and thrive together.

Our bi-annual Culture and Inclusion Survey provides valuable perspectives from our teams. Guided by this feedback, we are committed to prioritizing innovation, recognition, professional development and teamwork as key areas for ongoing growth.

Supply Chain

Upholding Fairness and Integrity Across Our Supply Chain

We value the people who craft our products. That’s why we require our Ethical Charter—our code of conduct for suppliers, outlining 10 key principles focused on protecting people within our supply chain—to be signed by all finished goods and certain raw material and component suppliers.

A subset of these suppliers are enrolled in our Global Social Compliance Program to be audited. Our Ethical Charter requires organizations to share our criteria with their own suppliers. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every person throughout the TUMI supply chain is treated with respect, dignity and care.
